Cosmos Cloth
This salvaged cotton canvas cloth has been hand dyed using foraged eucalyptus, home grown geraniums and iron.
Rich in mother nature’s essence, this cloth holds a multitude of realms within the one piece. A universe within a universe.
This one of a kind ceremonial cloth can serve as a foundation for chaxi during tea ceremony, used as a beautiful base for your altar, or woven into your daily rituals, adding an elemental and grounding energy.
It can also be displayed throughout your home or environment and simply admired as an art piece.
A multi-functional creation that is designed to last many moons.
Dimensions:
Length - 153cm
Width - 29cm
Care:
Due to the nature of the botanical dyeing process, we recommend minimal washing.
When your cloth does require washing please make it a gentle cold hand wash using a pH neutral liquid soap or soap nuts.
Eco laundry detergents and powders contain washing soda which is highly alkaline and could alter the colour of your cloth.
Do not soak for longer than 5-10 minutes.
We recommend Dr Bronners hemp unscented soap. You only need a small amount as its quite concentrated.
Once washed, do not twist and wring out the cloth as the silk fibre is more delicate when wet and it could compromise the integrity of the fabric.
Instead, gently squeeze out excess water and either lay flat on a towel to dry or place on a drying rack in the shade.
Do not hang in full sun as this could affect the natural colour.
Citrus or acidic liquids such as vinegar will affect the natural colour causing a 'bleaching' effect.
If your cloth is exposed to an acidic liquid, rise immediately under water to dilute and hopefully soften the impact. At worst it will add some unique patterns to your cloth which is all part of the beauty of natural dyes.
Iron on a medium heat, spray the silk with water to dampen and iron on the reverse side of the fabric with plenty of steam.
Or if you own a steamer this is preferred.
Store away from full sunlight.
The philosophy & process behind Lunarc Studio’s creations:
Lunarc is an Australian adornments and interior brand infused with nature, cultivated in ritual, and consciously curated to evoke the senses.
After all, the way that we as individuals adorn ourselves and our environment is, in its purest form, an outward projection of our inner world.
Through our creations, we seek to encourage curiosity for, and exploration of self and sensuality.
Every creation offers an opportunity to forge and foster connections to the land, with ourselves, and with each other.
From the flora and fauna from which the fibres come,to the weavers and machinists who bind them together, and the botanical dyer who brews the pigment and enhances them with pattern, every creation has its own unique story to tell, each imbued with the energies of all who have contributed to its journey.
Lunarc's vision is for you to continue this journey; to bear witness to their colours changing, slowly transforming and evolving, embedding whispers of life, little by little into their seams, until their final season, when they will dissolve gracefully back into the earth, from where they came, without so much as a trace....many, many moons from now.
Botanical dyeing is an ancient art form that harnesses pigments from nature to colour natural fibres.
It is the original way in which textiles were coloured before the creation of the synthetic dyes that are predominantly used today.
The beauty of natural colour lies in its subtle imperfections and its limitless variations.
Lunarc celebrates this diversity, with the intention of allowing every creation its own unique journey and individual aesthetic, an energy that is becoming obsolete over the years by the introduction of fast fashion and textile industries.
At Lunarc, all of our dyeing materials are locally foraged and collected directly from nature, or from rescued food or floristry waste sources, ensuring not only a low carbon footprint but a beautiful opportunity to capture the essence of our environment.
Raw metals and minerals are also used mindfully and sparingly to both explore and deepen colour spectrum, as well as to encourage pigment longevity.
We fundamentally believe that quality is always paramount over quantity.
We source high spec fabrications to ensure lasting durability and longevity
We create small quantity collections, as not to over produce and risk wasting resources.
Every fibre and fabrication is naturally derived, salvaging pre-loved fabrics and threads where possible.
All creations are sewn with silk or cotton thread to ensure 100% compostability.
